Have you ever changed...

...the name of your blog?

I've been writing this blog since 2008 and already it has had two names.  I started with "Blog Envy" because back when I started I had a handful of friends who kept blogs and I thought it was so cool.  I wanted one too, hence the term, blog envy.  I kept that name for only about a week or so when I rethought it and realized it had absolutely nothing to do with running and running was what I'd be writing about the most.

That's when I switched to "Slow is the New Fast".  It's a slogan we had all cackled about lots during our very first half marathon training clinic.  There was a group of us slow runners always at the back and we laughed away the kilometres thinking up funny names, slogans and ideas for why it was cool to be at the back.  Slow is the new fast just always stuck in the back of my mind and I thought it would be the perfect name for my blog.

And, apparently so did someone else.  Awhile back I became aware of another blogger using that name, complete with a .com, Facebook page and Twitter handle.  Even though I'm pretty sure I'd been blogging under that name for several years already, she beat me to it and registered herself a Slow is the New Fast empire.  Years ago I didn't know much about websites and didn't realize that one day I might want to have my own domain.  It's no big deal, there hasn't been much confusion since I'm pretty small and she's pretty big, but it always kind of bugged me that I wasn't the only one anymore.  With the domain and everything else all taken there's nowhere for me to grow into.

So I've been thinking for awhile and I think it's time to change the name of my blog.  I've been thinking and considering and have come up with a few good ones and may have possibly already decided.  It's been pretty fun thinking up ideas but very tough at the same time.  I've had help from some very talented friends and I think it's going to be good.

I will admit, it's kind of hard imagining a whole new identity for my blog.  It feels kind of like when I got married - should I change my name or shouldn't I?  I didn't end up changing my last name (long story involving too much alliteration and a limerick!) but I think changing the blog is the right decision and I'm pretty excited.

But, I have a few questions and if you have any advice or input, I would greatly appreciate it:

  • Have you ever changed your name or address?  How did it go?  Any tips?
  • Do you read/follow blogs because of their name?
  • I think I'm settled on a new name, but just in case, any wicked suggestions?  :o)
In other news, Cori's released a photo of the beautiful finisher's medallions you'll receive if you participate in her Virtual Half Goofy Challenge - they're amazing.  Check them out here.

  1. I found many blogs trying to come up with my name. That maybe how I found you. Sine then I pretty much follow blogs based on content I can relate to and forget there name. :)

  2. I have never fiddled with my blog's name or address, and I've always been happy with what I choose. But I can see wanting the change, so good luck and have fun with it! (I too never changed my name when I married!)

  4. I had a blog previous to this that was just a blog about my random life, but I changed it when I started running. It was called The Nicotine Queen. Didn't think it was appropriate ;)

  5. Ugh I have a love/hate relationship with my blog name. I think it's lame! I love your blog name and that sucks that someone else has the same name and took the domain, FB, Twitter name too.

I would like to change my blog name but I can't think of anything creative and really I don't have time or the interest to mess around with it!
