Run for Water Ultra Marathon

For the past few years I have participated in the Abbotsford Run for Water.  I completed the 10k while I was pregnant the first time, the 5k when I was pregnant the second time and finally the half marathon in 2012.  Every year we have attended the Run for Water Gala prior to the races and have gotten to know members of the organizing committee and the incredible difference the Run for Water is making.

Each year I have become more and more inspired by the projects the Run for Water Society is able to complete in their recipient villages and each year I have wanted more and more to take on the next challenge...the Run for Water Ultra Marathon.

Last year's Ultra runners...
Five years ago I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to run a 10k race again, let alone the 15 half marathons and 1 full marathon I've completed since then.  With years and years of hard work and dedicated training I've been able to make changes in my life I never thought were possible.  Now more than ever I am feeling like it's time for me to use my running to help make a change in someone else's life instead.

On May 25, 2013 I will be running the 55km Run for Water Ultra Marathon alongside my own personal running hero Ray Zahab (Running the Sahara) and a team of other incredible runners who have all committed to raising funds for the Run for Water and it's partner charity HOPE International.  This year's goal is to bring clean water to the village of Koshale, Ethopia and allow it's people to have fresh, clean water for the first time ever and enjoy it for a lifetime.

I am just getting started but in the coming months I will be working hard to raise at least $1500 for the Run for Water Society and HOPE International.  I will be posting about my training and how the fundraising efforts are going through this blog, Facebook and on Twitter and will be adding an Ultra Marathon page to the blog.  Both the ultra marathon and fundraising are new territory for me and I hope you will follow along as I start this exciting journey and challenge myself to meet these goals.
